Gold Coast Desalination Projects

This plant is a reverse osmosis and water desalination plant. This plant gives water to the Gold Coast and South East Queensland through the South East Queensland Water Grid. This is situated in Tugun. The Gold Coast City Council chose Tugun as the best site for the desalination plant. This is after the Gold Coast Desalination Alliances investigated the site. The cost they expect to pay for this project is to be in excess of a billion dollars. The GCD Alliance has different sub groups that represent Queensland; Veolia Water, John Holland Group and the SureSmart Water.

Kiwinana Desalination Plant

This desalination plant is situated south of Perth in Western Australia. This plant turns seawater from Cockburn Sound into almost 140 megalitres of drinking water every day. This plant can supply the entire metropolitan area with water. This is the first reverse osmosis plant in Australia. This plant covers a vast area of land at the industrial park of the Kwinana suburb. The electricity of the plant is from the 80 MW Emu Downs Wind Farm. This is situated in the Midwest Region of the state close to Cervantes. This wind farm provides 270 GWh to the general power grid every year.

Sydney Desalination Plant

Veolia Water Australia Pty Ltd is the operator of this drinking water supply project. They operate this project on behalf of Sydney, which means, this water project is state owned. This plant is situated in the Kurnell industrial estate area which is in the souther suburbs of Sydney. This desalination plant was built by the Blue Water Joint Venture. They build it under the contract of Sydney Water. This joint venture is composed of John Holland Pty Ltd and Veolia Water Australia Pty Ltd.

Binningup Desalination Plant

This is a desalination plant being built in Binningup, Western Australia. Thgis is just 150 kilometers south of Perth. This is being built to supply water needed by the state capital of Perth. This will also supply water for the regional city of Bunbury. This place is known as the Southern Seawater Desalination project.

Wonthaggi Desalination Plant

The Wonthaggi Desalination Plant is also known as the Victorian Desalination Project. This water desalination plant is still under construction. This is situated close to the Bass Coast near the Wonthaggi, which is in southern Victoria, Australia. This will be finished in 2011. After this is completed, this will become a very important part of the water system of Victoria. This will supply water through a series of proposed and existing pipeline. This was promoted as part of the Our Water, Our Future program of the Victorian Government. There were different materials used to promote this desalination plant.
